The Magic of Glucosamine
By Susan Farmer

Brittany limped to a rocking chair as  pain rocked her. Slowly getting her breath back she looked down at her knee where the offending pain came from. Who would have thought that a little skiing would cause her to be in this situation?   She knew she had to go to the doctor, but in the meantime she needed some relief. Finally, easing into the chair, Brittany put her head back and closed her eyes. But that didn't help. Opening her eyes she caught sight of her Mom's newest health magazine. Flipping through the pages she came to a dead halt when caught sight of an ad for glucosamine that claimed relief from joint pain. Wow! Just the thing she needed. Picking up her laptop she ordered some on the spot.

Then she began reading. What was glucosamine anyway? Here is what she found out.

Glucosamine is an amino sugar and found naturally in cartilage.

Many studies show that glucosamine is can benefit people who suffer with osteoarthritis pain. It can also help renew and repair cartilage. This natural treatment can definitely help with mobility. It can also slow further deterioration of cartilage. Glucosamine is also a natural anti-inflammatory.

Now this was backed up in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
They studied fifteen other studies and they even concluded that

"Trials of glucosamine and chondroitin preparations for osteoarthritis symptoms demonstrate moderate to large effects, but quality issues and likely publication bias suggest that these effects are exaggerated. Nevertheless, some degree of efficacy appears probable for these preparations." (1)

And when the largest medical journal in the world reports it as true, you better believe there is the truth. Keep in mind, these people only reluctantly publish natural treatments that do work. But even JAMA (as it is affectionately called) couldn't deny glucosamine's natural healing ability.

Here is my own personal story. Many years ago I worked in a health food store and was always standing on my feet. No time to rest, just work. I would come home exhausted and after daily chores would collapse into bed. I was getting on in age too. At that time pushing forty five years old.  I would be so tired I would fall asleep fast, but then, only hours later nagging hip pain would jolt me awake.  As time went on, I began to have the pain at work, and I started moving more slowly, feeling very old. I thought at the time that I was bound to end up in surgery or worse just not able to move. Then one day, my boss put out free samples of glucosamine with a little flyer. I read the information and right away I was hooked. I brought the sample home and tried it. The first thing I noticed was that it did not upset my stomach. I have learned since, that in some people it might a little. In me it did not.  I began taking glucosamine on a regular basis. After about two weeks, I noticed a vast improvement. To my delight the pain seemed to be evaporating.

More time went on, and I continued to take the glucosamine. After awhile the pain did go away completely and astonishingly it never came back  How old am I today?
I am fifty two years old! Since then,  I am a strong believer in natural medicine. I
hope this information helps.
